Manicures have transformed over the years. Traditionally, painting your nails was a symbol of elegance and style. Shades were mostly classic reds and pinks. In more recent years, though, nail art and more fashion-forward colours have started to dominate the market. The rules have changed and manicures are now more popular among younger trendier generations. Colours like grey, orange, and green are almost as popular as traditional reds. Nails are now used as a way to express individuality, style, creativity, and even a sense of humour.
Nail art is now high profile in the world of pop culture, fashion, and entertainment. What exactly is nail art? It is the process of applying paint and then adding designs, graphics, stickers, or jewels onto nails. This trend got its start in local nail salons, but has blossomed into a big business.
Other Nail Services
Both Acrylics and Gels are fake nails that are attached to your natural nails. They can be the same length and shape as your current nail or they can be different shapes and lengths. If you are looking for longer nails either of these options may work for you. The two are actually very different products, though. They are made of different ingredients, have different application techniques, and each have unique pros and cons.
Shellac is a product that is a combination of gel and traditional nail polish. Due to its polish-like qualities, it is not used to lengthen or extend your nails. Rather, it is for aesthetic purposes. As a gel substance, it can add strength and durability to your natural nails and it tends to be less damaging than traditional Gels or Acrylics. Additionally, it tends to reduce the chances of chipping.
Many people tend to confuse Gels with Shellac. This may well be because Shellac contains a gel substance. Often, when people ask for a “gel manicure” what they want is Shellac. So gel manicure is has become a more casual name for Shellac. It should be noted, though, that Shellac and Gels are not the same service. Just as the ingredients, application, and results for Acrylics and Gels differ, the same can be said for Gels and Shellac.
SNS is a new option gaining in popularity. The process begins with a technician applying a brush-on gel base on the nail. Then the nails are then dipped in a powder. The powder can be colour or be pink and white for a French manicure look. The powder can actually help strengthen nails. SNS, unlike Shellac, doesn’t require UV lights for bonding.
